Mobile-bearing Total Knee Prostheses Reduce Axial Rotational Constraint Torque

ثبت نشده
چکیده

INTRODUCTION: The current study compared in-vitro tibiofemoral axial rotational constraint between 2 posterior stabilized mobile-bearing knee prosthesis and their fixed-bearing counterparts. It was demonstrated that both mobile-bearing knees induced significantly less constraint torque compared to their fixed-bearing counterparts. Highly-constrained design of the fixed-bearing knees substantially limited their range of axial rotation. The currents results provided further evidence that mobilebearing knee prosthesis could reduce load transmitted to the boneimplant interface and potentially promote post-operative component integration and long-term fixation.

Micromotion at the tibial plateau in primary and revision total knee arthroplasty: fixed versus rotating platform designs.

OBJECTIVES Initial stability of tibial trays is crucial for long-term success of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in both primary and revision settings. Rotating platform (RP) designs reduce torque transfer at the tibiofemoral interface. We asked if this reduced torque transfer in RP designs resulted in subsequently reduced micromotion at the cemented fixation interface between the prosthesis comp...

Prosthesis alignment affects axial rotation motion after total knee replacement: a prospective in vivo study combining computed tomography and fluoroscopic evaluations

BACKGROUND Clinical consequences of alignment errors in total knee replacement (TKR) have led to the rigorous evaluation of surgical alignment techniques. Rotational alignment in the transverse plane has proven particularly problematic, with errors due to component malalignment relative to bone anatomic landmarks and an overall mismatch between the femoral and tibial components' relative positi...

International comparative evaluation of knee replacement with fixed or mobile-bearing posterior-stabilized prostheses.

BACKGROUND Posterior-stabilized total knee prostheses were introduced to address instability secondary to loss of posterior cruciate ligament function, and they have either fixed or mobile bearings. Mobile bearings were developed to improve the function and longevity of total knee prostheses. In this study, the International Consortium of Orthopaedic Registries used a distributed health data ne...

In vivo kinematics of mobile-bearing knee arthroplasty in deep knee bending motion.

The current study aimed to analyze kinematics during deep knee bending motion by subjects with fully congruent mobile-bearing total knee arthroplasties allowing axial rotation and anteroposterior (AP) gliding. Twelve subjects were implanted with Dual Bearing Knee prostheses (DBK, slot type: Finsbury Orthopaedics, Surrey, UK). These implants include a mobile-bearing insert that is fully congruen...

Mobile-bearing insert translational and rotational kinematics in a PCL-retaining total knee arthroplasty.

INTRODUCTION Total knee prostheses with a mobile-bearing insert were developed to provide nonconstrained joint range of motion while reducing friction forces. The purpose of this study was, based on weightbearing X-rays, to evaluate the mobility of the polyethylene tibial insert in relation to the femoral and tibial components. We studied the results of a cementless total knee arthroplasty (TKA...
